But that didn’t stop imaginations from going
into full swing to brighten up the community this year by dotting the landscape
in and around St-Albert with statues of cows painted by local artists, nearly
half of whom are from the Prescott & Russell area.

1 Circuit – 20 cows

Over a span of some 30 km, people will get to admire about
20 cows installed in front of businesses, farms and residences between Embrun and
Casselman, but mostly in and around St-Albert. Already the cows popping up
around Eastern Ontario have generated tremendous curiosity and enthusiasm
throughout the community. “As soon as we started installing the cows two weeks
ago, we began receiving e-mails from the villagers asking if they could have
one on their properties,” commented Curd Festival Executive Director Michel-Olivier
Matte. “We also received a lot of phone calls from people thanking us for
adding some colour to the landscape,” he added.

The festivaldelacurd.ca site has a photo gallery of all of the cows and the list of artists who
contributed to the project. There is also an interactive map of the route that
people can check for the cows’ locations, as well as a Google Maps route they
can use with GPS.

The public is invited to provide their feedback on
their “Hey Cow, I see you now!” experience on social media by using the #HeyCowISeeYouNow
hashtag with their Facebook, Instagram or Twitter posts.

Getting around during the pandemic

The organizers of the “Hey Cow, I see you now!”
project invite the public to follow the route while being sure to adhere to the
sanitary measures in effect, including those for inter-regional travel. That
being said, families can easily set out on their adventure driving through the
beautiful landscapes and discovering the region’s farms and businesses. The
St-Albert Cheese boutique remains open and welcomes customers to its restaurant
for take-out meals only.

What’s next?

“That will obviously depend on how the pandemic
evolves. Of course, given the enthusiasm for the project shown by the Prescott
& Russell community, the organizers are thinking about adding more cows
throughout the territory next spring. Like many other cultural organizations,
we are monitoring the situation very closely as 2021 approaches,” explains Mr.
Matte. “One thing is for sure, and that’s that the outpouring of love and
positive energy for the cows has encouraged us to keep working on projects that
cheer up the community, and that will remain our goal over the coming year,” he
concludes. The cows will remain on the circuit throughout the winter of 2021.

– 30 –

Financed by the government of Canada, with the support of Celebrate Ontario program, the Ontario Art Council and La Nation municipality, the “Hey Cow, I see you now!” project is an initiative presented by the St-Albert Curd Festival.
